Your Kids Don’t Like Milk? Make Ordinary Milk Better With These Recipes!

A glass of milk a day, keeps black thoughts away. Milk is one of those rare items that have multiple benefits- from being a healthy nutritious food to a natural beauty product. Milk is used for making delicacies like appetisers, beverages, desserts to skin and hair beauty products. It forms the basis for many home remedies too. Health benefits too are plenty. It is good for our bones, heart health, reduces risk of cancer, promotes hair health, makes our skin glow. It is an anti-depressant, and helps in building muscles. So on the occasion of Milk Day, here are some milk-based healthy and nutritious recipes for you.

Almond milk recipe

All you need

  • 20-25 almonds
  • 500 ml low fat milk
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon green cardamom powder
  • Few saffron strands

Let’s start

  • Wash and soak almonds for 7-8 hours (or overnight), and peel the skin
  • Crush saffron, and add 2-3 tablespoons of hot milk to it
  • Take a saucepan and add 2 cups of milk, and boil. Then add soaked saffron-milk mixture, sugar and cardamom powder
  • Cook on medium heat for 5 minutes. Blend almonds with little water to make a smooth paste Leave few almonds aside
  • Now add the almond paste into milk and cook for 2 more minutes on simmer
  • Let it come down to normal temperature, and then pour the milk into cups or glasses
  • Crush the left almonds and add them to prepared milk. Serve and enjoy.

Spiced milk recipe

All you need

  • 2 cups of milk
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon each of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves

Let’s start

  • Take a saucepan and combine all the ingredients. Cook on medium heat while stirring gently
  • Bring it to boil and then turn off the heat. Keep it aside, and let it cool
  • Now pour into glasses and sprinkle some cinnamon powder and enjoy. You can also add cream.

Date milk shake recipe

All you need

  • 2 ¼ cups vanilla non-fat frozen yogurt
  • ½ cup skim milk
  • ½ cup dates, pitted and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ice cubes

Let’s start

  • Take a blender and combine all the ingredients. Blend till the dates get finely chopped and smooth.
  • And then add ice and serve.

Milk soda recipe

All you need

  • ½ cup flavoured milk (chocolate or strawberry)
  • ¾ cup chilled flavoured soda, orange

Let’s start

  • Take a tall glass or mason jar and add ½ cup crushed ice into it.
  • Then add ½ cup flavoured milk, and then pour ¾ cup soda. Stir and sip it immediately.

Kashmiri paneer milk recipe

All you need

  • 1 glass low fat milk
  • ¼ glass water
  • 300 grams paneer (cottage cheese), cut into large pieces (deep or shallow fry, if you like it)
  • 1 tablespoon each of dry ginger powder and fennel seed powder
  • ½ tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 3 each cloves and green cardamom
  • 1 each bay leaf and cinnamon stick
  • Few chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Let’s start

  • Take a pan or wok and add oil, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom and cumin seeds, let it splutter
  • Then add fennel seeds and ginger powder, sauté vigorously to avoid burning
  • Now add milk and water, and bring it to boil. Add salt and pepper and cook for 2-3 minutes over medium heat
  • Now add paneer, and cook for 5-10 minutes on simmer. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve.

Guajarati milk khichdo recipe

All you need

  • 2 cups each of sugar and cracked wheat
  • 1 litre milk
  • 4-5 each of raisins, cashew nuts, walnuts and almonds
  • 1 tablespoon ghee

Let’s start

  • Take a pan and put ghee, roast wheat till it becomes light brown in colour
  • Now add milk and let it boil. Then cook on medium heat till it gets fully cooked
  • Add sugar and cook till it gets mixed, and becomes thick.
  • Garnish with above mentioned dry fruits and serve.

Bengali milk paneer payesh recipe

All you need

  • 5 cups of low fat milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 150 grams paneer
  • 1 teaspoon semolina (suji)
  • 6 almonds, shredded thin
  • 4 green cardamoms, crushed
  • 6-7 saffron strands

Let’s start

  • Take a pan and boil milk, reduce it to half
  • Mean while mashed paneer and semolina to make a smooth paste. Then make very small balls of paneer mixture.
  • When milk becomes thick add sugar, saffron and cardamom and cook for 1 minute
  • Then add paneer balls, keep the milk at boil and cook for 10-15 minutes while stirring
  • Let it cool down. Refrigerate to chill. Then garnish almond and serve
